Do you know one of the chief complaints women claim after child birth, NO, not a colicky baby! It is Hair Loss, our hormones can be crazy and natural shedding after child birth can be common place. What happens when your hair never recovers! Our friend and marketing guru, Tara, shares her hair loss journey after the birth of her babies.
In her words: After child #2, despite the vitamins, and best practices to keep hair healthy I had patches of baldness around month 4-5 post birth, and by month 9-10 they still had not grown back. I used to work in radio so met with a former client who does hair transplants to figure out what my options were. I was only 35 at the time, and am in media so need to have hair for pictures/video/speaking engagements etc. I have been using the Capillus laser hat for about 2 years now, and honestly its stopped the hair loss I did have (lets face it genetics plays a big role in hair thickness, etc) so while ill never expect a full set of locks (that I've ever had in my life due to very thin hair) I at least don't see the bald spots. I was one of my first friends to have children, and almost everyone of my girl fiends has suffered hair loss like this post 1-2 kids-the doctors don't really tell you what to expect so it can be very concerning when you start to see clumps of hair come out. Couple that with crazy hormones and emotions of settling into the new family member you can panic quickly. there are lots of options now, wait at least 10-12 month post baby to really see where you hair growth is at and then decide treatment options from there!
This is a familiar story, as a hair salon owner specializing in hair loss, we invited Deborah Fauci, Ponce DeLeon Med Spa, that has major success with PRF treatment for hair growth! I work with Deb on cases where hair toppers and pieces can not help our clients
What is PRF?
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a second generation PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). It’s the same blood concentrate therapy concept but while PRP uses additives and chemicals in their vials, PRF is 100% natural and unmodified. The other difference between both techniques is that PRF will spin slowly while PRP requires higher spin times.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy works on the basis that the body’s own natural healing powers may slow and even reverse the aging process. It’s a revolutionary repair system that places growth factors in the exact location where we want the skin to repair and rejuvenate itself by working to increase your own collagen. The treatment involves harvesting platelets from the patient’s own blood in order to inject them into problem skin areas, starting with the extraction of a minimal amount of the patient’s blood. This is then placed in a centrifuge to spin down the blood, which separates the red blood cells from the platelet rich fibrin. Platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” – proteins that help to heal injured tissue, hair loss areas or damaged skin. Upon re-injection the platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin. Generally, you need two to three sessions after your first treatment. The treatment is recommended 3 times per year and is a 10th of the price of a hair transplant . Women not respond well to FUT and PRF is more effective, less costly and less painful.
Deb & I share many clients, some are Trans-women that really want to grow their hair! I can attest that PRF works in hair growth! The treatment wakes dormant hair follicles and within a few weeks clients have experienced hair growth! This especially helps for clients that want to wear hair toppers/pieces and do not have enough hair to attach.
We also discussed topical solutions, but the efficacy has not been great! Vitamins such as Nutrafol can be expensive and our poll shows a 50% success rate!
