How To Fix Damaged Hair?

How To Fix Damaged Hair?

Fixing damaged hair can be achieved by adding hair extensions, hair toppers, or both.  Damaged hair can occur for a plethora of reasons; illness, medication, hair loss, and overprocessing.  In the old days, covering hair with a wig or a haircut was the only option.  Today, we use a variety of methods to immediately fix damaged hair. There are many products on the market that claim to fix damaged hair, over time this may be the case, but our approach achieves instant gratification.

The below-pictured client has been growing her hair damaged due to Trichotillomania for over a year.  Her hair is coming along quite well, but she wanted a new look without waiting for another year.  Her stylist, Diane, evaluated her hair condition and came to the conclusion that the Veila Pull-Thru hair extension technique would give her tons of volume without adding undue stress on her compromised hair follicles.  The pull-thru method is not attached with an adhesive, tape, or sewing.  The extensions come in two sizes; small and large width, which makes them easy to hide within the natural hair. The extensions are made of virgin human hair which is re-applied every 6 to 8 weeks.  With proper care, the extension may be reused for up to 1 year. We take the time to teach our clients how to properly care for their new extensions, they receive a set of written instructions,  hair extension maintenance products and we schedule a free two-week check-in to ensure they are working well with their new hair.

How to fix damaged hair?

Some with Trichotillomania (a body-focused repetitive disorder)  do not pull hair directly from the roots, instead, they pick at split ends.

What Was Done?

1) After a consultation and hair evaluation, Diane determined which hair extension method would work best for our client's hair and lifestyle.  As previously mentioned, we determined the Veila pull-thru method would give optimal hair coverage and length without causing stress or further damage.

2). Diane colored her client's hair with a semi-permanent glossy soft black color.  She was not a candidate to bleach or lighten her hair due to its damaged condition.  A solid color helps to blend the hair extensions, highlighting or a balayage would create emphasis on the damaged ends of her client's hair.

3) After coloring, Diane used the Olaplex hair care system which consists of a deep penetrating conditioner and leave-in products.

4) Diane carefully trimmed the hair's split ends, this will enable her hair to stop breaking, as well as blend with the new healthy hair extensions.  There is no product that repairs split ends, this is a fallacy.  In order to stop split ends, they must be cut.

5). Once her hair was colored and trimmed, she carefully applied for the pull-thru hair extensions.  Proper sectioning and placing the extensions a bit away from the scalp avoid tension and further damage.  We want our client's hair to grow and would never do anything to compromise their damaged hair.

6) Her hair was then curled with a styling wand to create bouncy curls. She can wear her hair straight, but curling the hair helps to blend the natural hair with hair extensions.

At the end of Diane's client lengthy appointment, tears streamed down her face.  She could not possibly imagine the perfect outcome!  She was kind enough to let us share her before and after to give hope to others with her condition.

If your hair is in bad shape, we would love for you to visit us.  Our approach is combining our expertise with compassion to create the optimal style for you.

  • Hello, where are you located? The method to applying hair extensions I believe you said it was founded by yourself. Has it caught on yet? You also mentioned the line of products that I understand is currently being sued for the products causing loss of hair. I mention this because I have the entire product line and I also have spots almost bold spots on the top of me head. Now I am not saying that is because of them lol I’m sure my hormones are having fun playing with me. Amy time I addressed getting extensions I have been told the top of me hair is too thin and short. It’s like the v shape on the top of your head that is thin the rest is not. I live in Mount Pleasant SC Charleston and have been to many salon on King Street as well as London Hair. I have never been satisfied but spent a truck load of money. I had to ask myself if it’s me that can’t be satisfied. Have you ever had a client like that?
One Salon on Kings Street I think the name is Allure put the tape extension in my hair come to find out it was left overs from his previous client and when I got home that night one had already come out and by the next day all of them had fallen out. I was so upset and disappointed. It was Christmas and he was gone like every one else so I just had to deal with it.
I would fly to any salon if I left smiling.
My husband would be grateful as well lol
